The penetration rate of broadband services in Azerbaijan will reach 95 percent by 2025, said Gulru Huseynova, head of the department of finance and economic analysis at the Ministry of Transport, Communications and High Technologies of Azerbaijan.

She was speaking at a two-day seminar held in Baku with the assistance of TAIEX on the topic “Tariffs Applied in Telecommunications.”

She noted that presently, the figure is 72 percent.

“It is planned to completely replace the copper telecommunication infrastructure in Azerbaijan with fiber optic lines by this period,” said Huseynova.

It was earlier reported that the vast majority of internet connections in Baku accounts for the ADSL technology, and these services are provided through a copper cable network that doesn’t meet the requirements of consumers in view of poor connection and low speed of access to the internet.

In order to solve this problem, a corresponding state program has been approved, which envisages a phased connection of households to fiber optic lines.
