Uzbekistan plans to introduce modern "smart water" system

The Ministry of Water Resources of Uzbekistan held a press conference on management of water facilities, work on automation of water control and accounting system, Trend reports with reference to the Uzbekistan National News Agency.

In particular, it was noted that in accordance with the agreement signed with the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), a modern "smart water" system is being introduced at the main water management facilities of the country.

Within the framework of the project financed by grant funds of KOICA, devices allowing monitoring of water consumption in online mode have been installed in 61 water management facilities. If in 2020 the system is implemented in 90 more sites, it is planned to increase the number of sites to 300 by 2025 and to 1,000 by 2030.

In 2020 it is planned to introduce water-saving technologies on 44,000 hectares, in particular on 24,800 hectares of cotton fields - technology of drip irrigation, the report says.

This year 300 billion soum ($3.1 million) will be allocated to support introduction of water-saving technologies. In particular, taking into account the type of crops, irrigation technology and soil bonus points, eight million soum per hectare ($835.4) will be allocated for irrigation systems, four million soum ($417.7) for rainwater irrigation systems and one million soum ($104.4) for discrete irrigation.

To date, water-saving technologies have been introduced on 130,000 hectares in regions, including drip irrigation technology on 77,400 hectares.

At present, with funds from the Asian Development Bank, the World Bank and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, with the involvement of international experts and specialists, Australian "Aither" company was prepared a document defining the prospects of water management in the country.

The document covers many tasks, including wide introduction of water-saving technologies, application in the sphere of automated and information-communication technologies.
