Iran's ICT Minister talks internet quality

TEHRAN, Iran, Nov. 16

Trend:

Iran's information and communications technology (ICT) minister admitted that the country's Internet quality is generally good, but filtering has a side effect on its quality.

"The general quality indicators of the country's Internet show that the network conditions are lower than expected in some provinces,” Iran's information and communications technology (ICT) Minister Mohammad Javad Azari Jahromi said, Trend reports citing IRNA.

He stated that the low quality in some points is due to the low density of antenna sites.

"Iran's telecommunications network does not provide adequate transmission capacity for operators,” said Azeri Jahromi.

Azari Jahromi noted the reports received by the ICT regarding the quality of the internet and announced his assessment on the roots of these issues.

“We realized that the main problem is filtering,” he said. "Turning on the filter breakers (such as VPNs) slowdowns the internet quality in addition to imposing the higher costs."
