Iran’s tourism sector needs $21 billion of investments, said the head of Iran Cultural Heritage, Handcraft and Tourism Organization Ali Asghar Mounesan, Trend reports referring to Fars News Agency.
According to him, the goal is for the tourism sector to make up 4.7 percent of Iran's GDP.
Mounesan said that according to statistics provided by the Central Bank of Iran (CBI), the tourism sector's share in Iran's GDP is $11.8 billion, or about 2.8-3 percent.
Meanwhile, this figure stands at 4.7 percent in Turkey, according to him.
Mounesan also said that it may now be possible to develop the Iranian tourism sector with minor investments.
