Kazakhstan Temir Zholy National Company (Kazakhstan Railways, KTZ) will carry out a complex of measures on modernization and renewal of the company’s wagon fleet over the course from 2020 through 2029, Chairman of the Board of KTZ Sauat Mynbayev said, Trend reports with reference to KTZ.
Mynbayev said that currently the fleet of the company consists of 2,240 trains, 945 of which will be decommissioned till 2029 as their service time will run out.
“In order to replenish the decommissioned cars the company has approved the Strategy for Renewal of the Passenger Rolling Stock till 2029. The strategy oversees purchase of 100 new trains,” he said.
Mynbayev also noted that within the framework of the strategy overhaul of 209 passenger trains, is oversees in the near four years, 77 of which will be repaired this year.
He also commented on the measures to prevent coronavirus spreading. He said that notwithstanding the fact that Kazakhstan did not suspend cargo traffic with China, the cargo transit still dropped by 39 percent in February 2020.
Mynbayev added that the company is planning to take various measures to increase the cargo turnover in the future.
The outbreak in the Chinese city of Wuhan - which is an international transport hub - began at a fish market in late December 2019.
Some sources claim the coronavirus outbreak started as early as November 2019. The symptoms include cough, headache, fatigue, fever, aching and difficulty breathing. It is primarily spread through airborne contact or contact with contaminated objects. In mild cases, according to the Chinese authorities, treatment takes about a week, in severe cases - two or more.
Chinese health authorities say that the majority of the people who have died were either elderly or had underlying health problems.
Aside from Mainland China, the cases of coronavirus spreading have also been confirmed in other countries.
Several countries are developing a vaccine against the new virus.
