Iran allocates funds for construction of Hamadan-Sanandaj railway

About 3.5 trillion rials ($83.3 million) has been allocated for the construction of the Hamadan-Sanandaj railway between Hamadan city of Hamadan Province and Sanandaj city of Kurdistan Province in the current Iranian year (began March 20, 2020), Deputy Chairman of the Planning and Budget Organization of Iran Hamidreza Adl said, Trend reports citing IRNA.

According to Adl, although the construction of the Hamadan-Sanandaj railway began in 2006, there was no significant progress in the construction of this railway until 2013.

Adl added that 3.8 trillion rials (about $90.4 million) was allocated for the construction of this railway in the last Iranian year (March 21, 2019 to March 20, 2020).

The official said that 1.5 trillion rials (about $35.7 million) will be allocated for the construction of this railway in the final stage.

Adl said that the railway will be put into operation by the end of current Iranian year with the necessary funds.

"During the current government (in power since August 2013), the provinces of Hamadan, Kermanshah, West Azerbaijan and Gilan in Iran have joined the Iranian railway network," he said.

The Hamadan-Sanandaj railway is being built in three parts. The length of the first part is 64 km, the length of the second part is 56 km, and the length of the third part is 30 km.
