A new container terminal started operating at Kazakhstan Dostyk station in a test mode, Trend reports citing Kazakhstan Railways.
The terminal's capacity will be 80,000 containers per year initially. In the future, the operational cargo turnover is to be increased to 330,000 containers annually.
Currently, construction of four new and modernization of two existing transshipment terminals is underway at the Dostyk station.
The implementation of these projects will increase the container handling capacity at the station from the current 344,000 TEU to 1.7 million TEU per year by 2025.
The modernization of the Dostyk-Iletsk railway transport corridor will begin this year within the framework of the Nurly Zhol State Program for Infrastructure Development for 2020 - 2025.
Construction of second tracks on separate sections of the corridor and a number of railway infrastructure facilities is planned to develop the station and separate points.
The implementation of the planned measures will increase the competitiveness of the main transport corridor of Kazakhstan along the China-Europe route.
