BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 10. General cargo vessel Uzeyir Hajibeyli of Azerbaijan Caspian Shipping Company (ASCO) CJSC will deliver necessary equipment from Türkiye to Azerbaijan for a new thermal power plant (TPP) in Mingachevir, the largest one in the South Caucasus, Trend reports via ASCO.
The company said that according to the order of AzerEnergy OJSC, transformers and auxiliary equipment with a total weight of 1,303 tons were loaded onto the vessel in the Turkish port of Haydarpasa, and the ship is now steaming towards Baku.
In addition, ASCO emphasized that its vessel was utilized to transport gas turbines and generators produced by the Italian company Ansaldo Energia for the project in Azerbaijan.
In February 2023, the foundation was laid for a new power plant (TPP) with a capacity of 1,280 megawatts in Mingachevir (on the site of the 'Azerbaijan' TPP).
Last year, AzerEnergy OJSC signed contracts with Ansaldo Energia for the construction, delivery, and installation of gas turbines and generators produced by this Italian company at the new plant in Mingachevir.
Earlier, AzerEnergy noted that, as a result of combining the new 1,280-megawatt power plant with the existing seventh and eighth units of the 'Azerbaijan' TPP, the total capacity of the energy facility in Mingachevir will be 1,880 megawatts.
With the contract from Ansaldo Energia, the thermal power station's efficiency will see a significant boost, going from 18 to an impressive 56 percent.
The gas used in the gas turbines of the new 1,280-megawatt power plant will convert water into steam through utilization, enabling energy production without the use of additional gas in the steam turbines of the seventh and eighth units of the 'Azerbaijan' TPP.
The good news is that the link will result in an annual savings of 800 million cubic meters of gas.
