On Feb. 18, Astana will host a news conference on the Asian Winter Games 2011, the city administration said. Almaty Deputy Mayor Viktor Dolzhenkov, Kazakh National Olympic Committee Vice President Pavel Novikov, Executive Board of the Seventh Asian Winter Games 2011 Organization Committee President Andrey Kotlov, Almaty City Administration Tourism, Physical Training and Sport Department head Khairbolat Khaydarov and Asian Winter Games 2011 Board Director Sultanmahmoud Shokbitov will attend the conference at the Astana-2 Hall at the Ankara Hotel.
The Asian Games are the second most important sporting event after the Olympics.
The Asian Winter Games began in 1986.
The Asian Olympic Council supervises and regulates the Asian Games. The Asian Winter Games were held in Japan three times (1986, 1990, 2003), in China - two times (1996, 2007) and in Korea - one time (1999).
