ASTANA, Kazakhstan, February 9. Kazakhstan Railways (KTZ, a national company) plans to expand its fleet of locomotives and wagons in the coming years, Trend reports.

According to the KTZ, by 2030, Passenger Transportation JSC (a subsidiary of the KTZ) will add 537 passenger wagons from Stadler to its fleet.

Currently, the Passenger Transportation JSC fleet consists of over 2,100 railroad wagons. Over the past 10 years, it has been updated by 50 percent with carriages that meet modern requirements for safety, comfort, and environmental friendliness. 1,326 passenger wagons were purchased, including 102 in 2023.

At the same time, Kaztemirtrans JSC (a subsidiary of KTZ) plans to buy about 3,000 freight wagons by 2025. In 2023, 242 open wagons were purchased. In total, over the last decade, more than 25,000 freight wagons have been purchased.

In addition, Kazakhstan Railways made the largest purchase of locomotives in 2023—112 units—which made it possible to reduce the depreciation of the locomotive fleet from 68 percent in 2020 to 52 percent in 2023. By 2029, 359 locomotives will be purchased.

As part of the cooperation agreement between KTZ and the Chinese CRRC Corporation Limited, 100 maneuverable and 100 mainline locomotives will also be purchased.
