DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, July 18. The value of loans issued by Tajikistan’s banks amounted to 9.276 billion somoni ($848.7 million) from January through June 2023, Nematullo Hikmatullozoda, the Assistant to the President of Tajikistan on Economic Affairs said, during a recent meeting on the results of the banking system for the first half of 2023, Trend reports.
This figure increased by 2.7 billion somoni ($247 million) or 42 percent compared to the same period last year, according to Hikmatullozoda.
Furthermore, it was noted that, the savings balance reached almost 17 billion somoni ($1.5 billion), growing by 5.5 billion somoni ($503.2 million) or 47.9 percent compared to the same date in the previous year.
Hikmatullozoda also emphasized that despite the ongoing transformations in the global economy and the negative impact of external factors on the national economy, Tajikistan’s banking system is operating efficiently and purposefully. As a result, the country has managed to maintain a relatively low inflation rate and stable national currency.
Meanwhile, the annual inflation rate in Tajikistan reached 2.4 percent in May of this year. The inflation rate in May 2023 marked the lowest level recorded since 2018, according to the Eurasian Development Bank (EDB).
