DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, October 10. Around 223,200 tons of cotton were harvested in Tajikistan as of October 6, which accounts for 52 percent of the set annual plan, Trend reports.
As per the Ministry of Agriculture in Tajikistan, the cotton harvest figures are as follows: 165,792 tons in the Khatlon region, 54,748 tons in the Sugd region, and 1,718 tons in the districts of republican subordination.
This year, Tajikistan had planned to plant cotton on 186,000 hectares of land. However, cotton was sown on 184,000 hectares across the country. Based on projections, Tajikistan is expected to gather 430,000 tons of cotton this year.
Tajikistan typically cultivates approximately 200,000 hectares of this agricultural crop annually. The country usually yields around 430,000 tons of raw cotton, which is a major export commodity for Tajikistan.
In January 2023, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon issued directives to foster the light industry by bolstering cotton production and enhancing the textile industry's processing capabilities.
