A group of fifteen tuberculosis specialists from all regions of Turkmenistan have recently improved their skills in monitoring and evaluation of the National Tuberculosis Programme, UNDP reports.
Five-day training was held at the Centre for Tuberculosis Treatment and Prophylaxis.
The trainees covered all major issues relating to monitoring and evaluation, such as identification of tuberculosis suspects, monitoring of treatment administration and outcome assessment, case registration, completing quarterly reports, drug management and patient education.

The training was held based on WHO modules such as "Managing Tuberculosis at the District Level" - a series of workbooks designed to provide technical knowledge and skills essential for TB control at the district level. In addition to the WHO workbooks, the "National Guide for Monitoring and Evaluation of the Tuberculosis Programme" was taught during the training.

A similar training will be organized this November for the penitentiary sector of Turkmenistan.

The training was organized by the United Nations Development Programme as part of the Purposeful strengthening and expanding of qualified services on TB diagnostics and treatment in Turkmenistan Project, which is financed by the Global Fund and implemented jointly with the Ministry of Health and Medical Industry of Turkmenistan.
