Turkmenistan's role in strengthening global energy security is growing - EU envoy

The growing role of Turkmenistan in strengthening global energy security, said the EU Special Representative for Central Asia Pierre Morel at a meeting in Ashgabat with Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said on Wednesday the Turkmen government.

"Pierre Morel focused on various aspects of energy cooperation, stressing its purely forward looking, taking into account the gigantic economic and resource potential of Turkmenistan and its increasing role in enhancing global energy security," said in the media.

The European diplomat, as the report says, "has expressed interest in strengthening mutually beneficial cooperation, including within the framework of long-term strategy of cooperation with EU countries of Central Asia."

As stressed by the EU Special Representative for Central Asia, "in Europe warmly welcomed consistently put into practice the strategy of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov on the creation of multi-variant system for Turkmen energy to international markets."

In turn, Berdimuhamedov said that, "speaking an active supporter of a new approach to global energy security, Turkmenistan has taken concrete steps to enhance its export potential, creating an extensive, modern and efficient running network delivery of energy to world markets."

Turkmenistan and the EU in May 2008 signed a Memorandum of Understanding and Cooperation in the field of energy.
