A Turkish delegation headed by the director-general of the main department of International Law and Foreign Relations of the Justice Ministry of Turkey Fazli Dogan is on visit to Ashgabat, the Turkmen government said on Friday. The delegation was received at the Foreign Ministry of Turkmenistan.

Both parties considered the priorities of dialogue in many directions, including an exchange of experience in the field of justice and expressed the "desire to promote the deepening of the dynamically developing Turkmen-Turkish cooperation, built on principles of confidence and mutual benefit".

The conversation noted a high level of interstate relations between Turkmenistan and Turkey linked by centuries-old friendship alongside community culture and traditions of two countries' fraternal people.

According to the report, Mr Dogan "expressed confidence that this meeting will give an additional impetus to realisation of huge potential of bilateral cooperation".

President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhammadov said at the government meeting that, "it is necessary to continue work on upgrading national legislation based on international practice and in depth study of international experience and legal acts".

Turkmenistan has registered more than 600 Turkish companies operating in such sectors as trade and investment, construction, energy, textile and manufacturing industries.

The two countries are interested in the Turkmen gas transportation project to Europe. In particular, the option of laying a gas pipeline across the Caspian Sea and connecting it to the transnational project Nabucco en route through Azerbaijan is being considered.
