A Law on Internal Affairs Bodies, regulating their activities, has come into force in Uzbekistan.

The law was adopted by the lower house of the Uzbek parliament on Aug. 12, 2016, and approved by the parliament’s upper house, the Senate, on Aug. 24, 2016.

The law, in accordance with its final article, comes into force six months after its signing by the Uzbek president and publication by the press.

To date, there has been no law regulating the activities of Uzbekistan’s internal affairs bodies.

Under the new law, main tasks of internal affairs bodies are to protect the rights, freedoms and legitimate interests of citizens, the property of individuals and legal entities, the constitutional order, to ensure the rule of law, the security of individuals, society and the state, as well as to prevent offenses.

Main principles of activity of the internal affairs bodies are lawfulness, unity, observance and respect for the rights, freedoms and legitimate interests of citizens, openness and transparency, according to the new law.
