Uzbek Central Bank sees increase in volume of non-performing loans

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Jan.31

The volume of non-performing loans (NPL) issued by Uzbek banks in 2021 increased by 2.9 times compared to 2020, Trend reports citing the Central Bank of Uzbekistan.

This figure amounted to 16.9 trillion soums ($1.5 billion) in 2021, which is 5.2 percent of the total volume of all issued loans.

The volume of NPL in 2020 amounted to 5.7 trillion soums ($535.8 million).

In 2021, the NPL of state-owned banks of Uzbekistan accounted for 15 trillion soums ($1.3 billion), and private banks’ NPL accounted for 1.9 trillion soums ($176.4 million).

The total volume of all loans issued by banks of Uzbekistan amounted to 326.3 trillion soums ($30.1 billion) in 2021.
