Uzbekistan, Saudi Arabia unveil schedule for joint green hydrogen project launch

TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, July 20. A green hydrogen project of Saudi Arabia’s ACWA Power in Uzbekistan is expected to be launched next month, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev said, Trend reports.

He made the remark during the summit of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and Central Asian countries in Jeddah on July 19.

According to the president, it is necessary to adopt a separate roadmap for the joint implementation of green energy project with the countries of the Persian Gulf.

“We are keen to efficiently fulfill the potential of investment funds established with our partners from the Gulf and expand the activities of your leading banks in our region. Today, we are working with such leading companies as ACWA Power, Masdar, Mubadala, Taka, and Nebras Power to build solar and wind power stations in our country with a total capacity of over 15 GW, and implement energy storage projects,” President Mirziyoyev added.

Meanwhile, earlier this year, Saudi Arabia's ACWA Power has signed an agreement on the development of a $88 million worth green hydrogen project in Uzbekistan. Currently, the company's investment portfolio in Uzbekistan includes 8 projects with a total value exceeding $6.8 billion and a projected capacity of over 5.5 GW.
