Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei said on Monday that security of the Persian Gulf will benefit the entire neighboring states, otherwise, all will suffer indiscriminately, IRNA reported.
In a meeting with Qatari Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa ath-Thani, the Supreme Leader called for developing ties between the two countries and said that the growing trend of cooperation will benefit the entire region in addition to Iran and Qatar.
The Supreme Leader complained that certain states in the region do not appreciate the high importance of security in the Persian Gulf and said that unfortunately, the US and Israel encourage their negligence about security of the region.
The Supreme Leader underlined the importance of solidarity between the Shia and Sunni Muslims and said that the Shia and Sunni Muslims have lived together in peace and security for many years, but, certain hands are at work to spoil the atmosphere of sincerity between them.
'They attempted to turn the religious differences to a social discord. Unfortunately, there are prejudiced and mercenaries on both sides requiring systemtic control over them both from the religious and the security dimensions.'
Responding to the Qatari Emir's remarks about possible verdict to be announced by the court about former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri's assassination, the Supreme Leader said that the court is spurious and that the verdict whatsoever is null and void.
The Supreme Leader said, 'We hope that the Lebanese influential parties will act on the basis of logic and wisdom to prevent the trial from turning into a major problem.'
The Supreme Leader said that the Lebanese nation will thwart any conspiracy to destabilize Lebanon. 'We are hopeful about improved situation in the region.'
The Qatari Emir said that the excellent relations between Iran and Qatar would serve as a model adding that the two countries have closer stance about political issues.
Sheikh ath-Thani called for further development of cooperation with the Islamic Republic of Iran.
The Qatari leader said that the security of the region and solidarity of the Shia and Sunni Muslims are two major subjects.
On Lebanon Sheikh ath-Thani said that certain people have attempted to stir up new tension in Lebanon and Qatar is willing to help thwart new escalation in Lebanon in cooperation with the regional states.
President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was present in the meeting.
