Iran has expressed protest regarding the sanctions imposed on the Islamic Republic to Danish ambassador in Tehran, Fars reported.

The European Union banned imports of oil from Iran on Monday and agreed to freeze the assets of Iran's central bank, joining the United States in a new round of measures.

The latest sanctions by the European Union will be fully enforced by July 1. The sanctions on Iran oil is fraught with risks - of rising energy prices and global financial instability.

Iranian deputy foreign minister Ali Askar Hagi during his meeting with the Danish Ambassador said that "sanctions against Iran are baseless".

The ambassador noted he will forward the protest to the EU.

Denmark is the head of the European Union. The head of the EU changes every six months.
