11 Iranian pilgrims more kidnapped in Syria

Eleven more Iranian pilgrims were kidnapped in Syria, Head of the representative office of Iran's Hajj and Pilgrimage Organization in Syria Masoud Akhavan said, IRIB news reported.

He added that today at about 3:00 in the morning, the carvan of pilgrims were ambushed on the Aleppo-Damascus road, close to Khama city in Syria. The ambush was set by unknown armed forces.

"The pilgrims were stripped off their passports, mobile phones and money," Akhavan said. "Eleven men were separated from the group and taken into unknown direction, while 35 other pilgrims (4 men, rest women and children) were released".

Earlier on Jan. 27, also eleven pilgrims from Iran were kidnapped in Syria. Prior to that on December 21, 2011, eight technicians, including five Iranian electrical engineers were kidnapped by armed gunmen while traveling to a power plant in the Syrian city of Homs.

Later, two other Iranians, who were trying to obtain information about the missing men, were also kidnapped, and their whereabouts are still unknown.

A total of 29 Iranians were abducted in Syria for the past couple of months.
