Presidential hopeful, Secretary of State Expediency Council of Iran, Mohsen Rezaei said that competing against Ayatollah Ali Akbar Rafsanjani at the upcoming elections will be tough, KhabarOnline website reported.

He noted that he himself signed up for the June 14 election out of concern for Iran's economic situation.

Rezaei went on to note that the sorry state of affairs in the Iranian economy is a serious problem, that has been born out of poor management skills and mismanagement of resources.

Secretary of the State Expediency Council has also criticized the current administration for keeping its promises regarding the economy.

He pledged to attach special importance to public welfare, should he win the race.

Iran will hold the 11th presidential election on June 14, 2013.

The voters will select the successor of the current President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who is not able to participate in the elections for the third term according to the country's constitutional laws.

The president of Iran is elected for a four-year term in a national election and the Guardian Council vets the candidates for qualifications.
