Iran eyes to revive airplane deal with Airbus

TEHRAN, Iran, August 11. Iran Civil Aviation Organization(ICAO)'s agenda is to renovate its aging Iranian air fleet, and eyes to revives the deal with Airbus, said the head of ICAO Mohammad Mohammadibakhsh, Trend reports citing ILNA.

He pointed out Iran's interest in resuming its contract with Airbus adding that the country's policies towards the deal have not changed but the contract requires review and reform.

Mohammadibakhsh noted that if Airbus remains committed to the deal, Iran will be committed as well, adding that the airplane manufacturer was not committed to the deal that included the supply of spare parts and providing new aircraft.

The official has indicated that the possible revival of the 2015 nuclear deal would lead to the purchase of new and second-hand aircraft directly from airplane manufacturing companies.

After the sign of the nuclear deal in 2015 known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), Iran signed a $17 billion deal with Boeing for 80 jets that continued by signing a $18 billion contract Airbus signed to sell 100 jets to IranAir, however, both deals suspended following the US withdrawal from the JCPOA in 2018.
