For the first time since the economic sanctions on Iran were removed, a European ship has docked at Iran's Asaluyeh port, said Tiran Jassem Zadeh, head of Ports and Shipping Organization of Asaluyeh.

Getty Buttiglieri, an Italian tanker carrying chemical substances, docked at Asaluyeh's Pars Petrochemical Port this morning, he said, Mehr news agency reported Apr. 11.

Elsewhere in his remarks, the official said shipping activities have experienced a huge rise in Asaluyeh since the removal of the sanctions.

The sanctions were removed as a result of the implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action between Iran and the P5+1 (the US, the UK, France, Russia, China and Germany) in January.

The sanctions had not only restricted Iranian companies from international trade, but banned Iranian shipping lines from international activity as well.
