Ukraine wants its private sector for Iran's 10B euro railway projects

Ukraine is following up on a memorandum it signed with Iran, regarding co-operation in developing the Islamic Republic's railway system.

Tasnim news agency quoted Ukraine ambassador to Iran Sergey Burdilyak as saying that Kyiv has called on Ukraine's private and governmental companies, to cooperate in Iran's projects.

The projects that envisage Ukraine-Iran co-operation, are estimated to cost about 10 billion euros, according to the ambassador.

On July 15, Iran and Ukraine inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to boost cooperation in the railroad industry.

The MoU envisages cooperation in the production of long “jointless rails”, rail-laying equipment, as well as communication and alarm systems as well as high-speed train technology and new technologies in manufacturing rails.

Sergey Burdilyak also voiced plans for Kyiv to expand bilateral ties with Tehran. Moreover, he said that Kyiv will consider to ease the visa requirements for Iranian tourists.

The countries are also slated to discuss cooperation in energy, agricultural and aviation sectors, Burdilyak added.
