Iran's Oil Ministry has decided to liquidate National Iranian Gas Exporting Company and create gas exporting department within the country’s national oil company.

The decisions came following a series of measures aimed at improving the structure of the National Iranian Oil Company, Mehr news agency reported.

In the meantime, Ali Amirani has been appointed as the acting head of the gas exporting department, the report said.

Under the decision, the National Iranian Gas Company will be in charge of exporting gas through pipelines but exports of gas in the forms of LNG will be carried out by the newly created gas exporting department.

Iranian Oil Minister Bijan Namdar Zanganeh had earlier announced that the decision on the winding up of the National Iranian Gas Exporting Company was imed at preventing its privatization.
