Cars stand at top of Iran’s imports

Iran imported 45,956 passenger cars (excluding hybrid cars) during the first ten months of the current fiscal year (started March 20, 2017), according to the country’s custom administration’s data.

Iran imported 26,746 cars with 1,500-2,000 cc engines, worth $682.5 million in the 10-month period, which is 7 and 8.62 percent more in terms of number and value, respectively, year-on-year.

The country also imported 19,211 cars with 2,000-2,500 cc engines, worth $520.71 million (5.9 and 2.96 percent less, year on year in terms of number and value) in the period.

Iran’s overall car imports surpassed 58,874 in the 10-month period, 6.05 percent more year-on-year. The value of imported cars accounted to $1.565 billion, which is first among the Iran’s imported goods.

Iran imported 30.49 million tons of goods worth $42.81 billion during the first 10 months of the current fiscal year.

The figure indicates a 22 percent increase in terms of value and 10 percent in terms of volume, compared to the same period of the preceding year.

After cars, car parts, worth $1.4 billion, topped the list of Iran's imported goods during the 10-month period ( 3 percent of overall imports in terms of value).

Over 1.253 million cars were produced in Iran during the period, 15.2 percent more year-on-year.

The country’s auto output during the last calendar month (Dec. 21-Jan. 21) reached 151,179 vehicles, 9.5 percent more compared to the same month of the preceding year.
