Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said Friday Moscow expected Egypt's authorities as well as the opposition to assure their country remains stable in the wake of the resignation of president Hosny Mubarak, dpa reported.
"We assume that the Egyptian authorities will be able to guarantee the functioning of the state organs and that the opposition will also show a readiness to stabilise the situation," he said, according to Interfax.
Russia regards Mubarak's resignation as the outcome of an internal power struggle, he said.
In recent days Moscow had repeatedly warned the international community not to try to influence events in Egypt from the outside. Russia had long maintained good ties with Mubarak, who had received his training as an air force bomber pilot from the ex-Soviet Union.
