EU's Ashton arrives in Beirut for talks with Lebanese officials

Catherine Ashton, the European Union's foreign policy chief, arrived Wednesday in Beirut as part of her trip to the Middle East, DPA reported.

She is due to meet with the Lebanese President Michel Suleiman, Speaker of Parliament Nabih Berri, Prime Minister-designate Nagib Mikati and the Minister of Foreign Affairs Ali el Shami.

Discussions will focus on the situation in Lebanon and on developments in the region.

Ashton visited on Tuesday Israel and the Palestinian territories.
