Tantawi toured polling stations in the districts of Heliopolis, Nasr City and al-Waili in eastern Cairo to make sure that the voting process was running smoothly, the broadcaster added.
It reported that members of the ruling council had been dispatched to other governorates where the first round of the parliamentary elections were taking place, to check on security.
