A joint team of Syrian and international Red Crescent and Red Cross workers have succeeded in entering the beleaguered town of Douma on the outskirts of the capital Damascus, a Red Crescent official told dpa Monday.
"Our joint team entered (Douma) yesterday and will attempt to go there again today bringing urgent medical and humanitarian assistance," Syrian Arab Red Crescent operations director Khaled Erksoussi told dpa.
Erksoussi added that many residents of satellite towns around Damascus and other trouble spots were in urgent need of medical and humanitarian assistance given ongoing clashes between government and rebel forces.
