Israel Materials 24 March 2008 17:41 (UTC +04:00)

Israel, Jerusalem/ corr. Trend R. Abdullayev/ The Israeli plants develop a new system of missile shield based on the solid state laser by request of the Ministry of Defense of Israel, NEWSRU said quoting Na-Artez newspaper.

Unlike Skyguard system, established by Northrop Grumman concern and working on chemical laser, a new system will work on the solid state laser, the technology which has never been applied in the defense technology before.

The new system is expected to look for the rocket after it is launched, and to focus on it after which the laser beam will heat warhead of the rocket in two seconds until the temperature of the explosion. The shortcoming of the new system is that it will consume a lot of energy. However, according to specialists, it will turn out to be more efficient than Skyguard, working in the chemical fuel. The specialists also say that the new system will become operational not earlier than 8 years, therefore, Israeli concerns continue to actively develop missile shield not based on the laser, "Iron Cupola' and 'Magic Wand'.
