( dpa )- Israeli aircraft fired rockets on a mosque that belongs to Hamas movement in the southern Gaza Strip town of Rafah, killing at least four Palestinians and wounding 15 others, medics and witnesses said.
Witnesses said that Israeli aircraft hovered over southern Gaza Strip, and fired one missile at the mosque.
Earlier on Saturday evening, Israeli aircraft struck a police post belonging to Hamas government killing two policemen and wounding three others. The casualties were taken to the hospital for treatment.
Mo'aweya Hassanein, chief of ambulance and emergency services in the ministry of health, said that 60 Palestinians were killed and more than 200 wounded in the bloodiest ever day of Israeli strikes on the Gaza Strip.
Meanwhile, Hamas movement has officially asked Egypt to open the Rafah border crossing between Gaza and Egypt to cure dozens of casualties injured in the Israeli offensive.
Hamas said in as statement that dozens of Palestinians were in critical condition and needed urgent treatment. It also called on Egypt to allow fuel into the Gaza Strip.
In addition to the ongoing Israeli military offensive that began on Wednesday, where 94 were killed, Israel has been imposing a strict closure on the enclave and preventing fuel imports for gas stations for several weeks.
The Israeli offensive and the closure was a reaction to the ongoing rocket attacks carried out on daily bases at southern Israel by militant groups led by Hamas armed wing al-Qassam brigades.
