( dpa ) - Islamists are planning a terrorist strike against Germany, Interior Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble said in a news interview published Sunday, repeating previous warnings that trouble was on its way.

" Germany is in the target spectrum of Islamist terrorism," he told the newspaper Bild am Sonntag. "Both German and foreign intelligence experts say that a decision has been made within the leadership of al-Qaeda to prepare attacks on Germany."

German interior officials issued a similar public warning at the start of February but have not said precisely where they see the threat.

The past warnings have implied that German peace-keeping forces in Afghanistan could be among the range of targets of the Qaeda network, which is based in and near Afghanistan.

German police arrested three Islamist men last year for plotting a bomb attack on German soil. Reports at the time suggested the plot may have been directed at attacking a US base in the Frankfurt area.
