Belgian parliament backs Leterme coalition
( Euronews )- The Belgian parliament has approved the new coalition government to be led by Flemish Christian Democrat Yves Leterme. In a confidence motion the five-party coalition was backed by 97 votes for to 48 votes against.
It brings the curtain down on nine months of deadlock that had prompted speculation the country could break apart into its two major Flemish and French0-speaking communities. But members of the new government are expected to resume battle soon over devolution of powers to the regions.
