Kuwaiti Islamist members of parliament will submit a request to question the prime minister of the Gulf Arab state, just months after the cabinet resigned over a similar request by lawmakers, reported World bulletin.
The plan is the latest in a row between parliament and the cabinet which has threatened the approval of economic bills aimed at attracting investment and helping limit the impact of a global financial crisis that has been felt in Kuwait despite the OPEC member's oil income.
A lawmaker for the Islamic Constitutional Movement said on Tuesday the group had decided to submit a request to question Sheikh Nasser al-Mohammad al-Sabah, citing the cancellation of a $17 billion joint venture with Dow Chemical as one of the reasons.
"We will submit the questioning request... in maximum six weeks regarding several issues including state management policies, the stumbling of development and decisions including the Dow deal," said deputy Naser al-Sana.
The cabinet had cancelled the Dow Chemical deal in December, less than a month after signing it, following opposition by some deputies who had threatened to question the prime minister.
Kuwait has just appointed its fourth oil minister in three years amid delays in several projects, including a $15 billion refinery project. MPs have launched an investigation into whether the tender process for the refinery project was conducted properly.
