OIC to open representative office in Belgium

The Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) will open a representative office in Belgium, OIC Secretary General Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu said during his official visit to Washington,  The Journal of Turkish Weekly reported.

"I will meet with the foreign minister of Belgium and discuss it as soon as I proceed from Washington D.C. to Brussels," he told reporters.

Ihsanoglu also said that U.S. President Barack Obama had said during his speech in Cairo, Egypt that he wanted to have a new cooperation and open a new page with the Islam world and talked about several initiatives and projects.

Ihsanoglu's meeting with former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright focused on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and humanitarian aid to Pakistan.

Cooperation between the U.S. and OIC which is the world's second biggest organization on number of its members expanded after appointing the organization's special envoy to Washington.
