They said a suicide bomber exploded his jacket tied along with his body in the mosque. More casualties could be expected as about 500 people were offering Friday prayers in the targeted mosque.

The injured have been shifted to the nearby hospital and some are being shifted to Peshawar, the capital of the northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.

Police has reached the site and cordoned off the area. Security forces confirmed that the attack was a suicide bombing.

Local television channels reported that many people were stuck under the debris after the roof of the mosque collapsed due to the intensity of the blast.
