Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has expressed full support to the Afghan government and hailed bilateral ties between the two neighbors as progressive, Press TV reported.

"The two nations of Iran and Afghanistan share deep-rooted cultural, religious and ethical bonds and have common friends and foes," the president said at a Wednesday meeting with Abdullah Abied, Afghanistan's new ambassador to Tehran, Fars news agency reported.

"Hence, promoting the level of bilateral and regional cooperation would benefit the two nations as well as the region," he said.

Ahmadinejad said the enemies have made attempts to prevent Afghans from gaining independence and reconstructing their homeland and hailed the Afghan nation as a resistant people that will eventually defeat their enemies.

He said there are no barriers to expanded Tehran-Kabul relations and that Iran is prepared to share its experience and know-how in fields of industry, construction, investment and health with Afghanistan.

"The Islamic Republic of Iran fully supports the government and the governing system in Afghanistan and we believe that Afghanistan needs to be strong to improve matters in the country," The Iranian president stated.

Abied, who submitted his credentials to the president, appreciated Tehran's support for Afghanistan's development and prosperity and hailed the friendly ties between the two nations.

Afghanistan is seeking to utilize all of its capacities to bolster cooperation with the Islamic Republic, he said.
