A gunman shot dead a police officer at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Cambridge near Boston, BBC reported on Thursday.
The officer was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Police is still looking for the gunman and the campus is on lockdown.
According to the statement posted on the Institute's website, the situation is considered active and extremely dangerous.
At the moment, the shooter remains at large, and police continue to search the campus.
