Number of vehicles used in Turkey down by over 40%

As of late August 2019, the number of vehicles used in Turkey decreased by 42.2 percent, compared to August 2018, and amounted to 23.113 million vehicles, Trend reports referring to the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK).

The TUIK report notes that in August 2019, the share of cars in the total number of vehicles in Turkey amounted to 54.1 percent, vans and trucks - 16.4 percent, motorcycles - 14.3 percent, tractors - 8.2 percent and 7 percent accounted for other vehicles .

Moreover, 13.5 percent of the vehicles used were produced by Renault, 6.5 percent - by Fiat, 15.6 percent - by Volkswagen, 5.3 percent - by Honda, and 5 percent - by Peugeot. The remaining 54.1 percent accounted for other car brands.

Turkey ranks sixth in Europe in car production. Models of Ford, FIAT, Renault, Toyota, Honda, Opel, Hyundai, Mercedes-Benz and MAN are currently assembled in Turkey. Turkey also manufactures local brands of buses such as BMC, Temsa and Otokar.
