( Cihan ) - British Foreign Minister Margaret Beckett arrived in Turkish capital Ankara late on Monday to pay an official visit to Turkey.

Upon her arrival at Ankara's Esenboga Airport last night, Becket was asked about British sailors and marines held by Iranian officials.

"We're pressing the Iranian government at a variety of levels to give us details of where our personnel are being held so that we can ... check for ourselves that they are in good health, Beckett replied. She also underlined that the captured sailors were operating in Iraqi, not Iranian waters.

The visiting minister will meet her Turkish counterpart Abdullah Gul in Ankara on Tuesday. Becket will also be received by Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan during his meetings in the Turkish capital.

Political, economic and cultural relations between Turkey and Britain in addition to Turkey's EU bid, Cyprus problem and international issues are on the agenda of Becket's meetings in Ankara.

On Wednesday, Becket will move on to Istanbul and come together with Turkey's Chief EU Negotiator Ali Babacan.
