Azerbaijan's state budget surplus exceeds two percent of GDP

In January-April 2014, actual revenues to the state budget of Azerbaijan totaled 6.471.3 billion manats(35.5 percent of GDP), or 2.7 percent less compared to the same period of last year, the government told Trend on June 5.

State budget expenditures decreased by 2.8 percent and amounted to 6.068.7 billion manats (33.3 percent of GDP).

The budget surplus for January-April amounted to 402.6 million manats or 2.2 percent of GDP. It hit 410.4 million manats in the same period of 2013.

In the structure of revenues, 41 percent (2.650.4 billion manats) were ensured by the Ministry of Taxes.

Revenues from customs duties and taxes totaled 463.9 million manats (with a weight of 7.2 percent), from other sources - 3.357 billion manats (51.8 percent).

Tax collections increased by 5.4 percent, customs charges - by 14.3 percent, and revenue from other sources decreased by 10.1 percent compared to January-April 2013.

During the reporting period, some 995.5 million manats were received from the collection of VAT, which is 15.4 percent of total income, profit taxes totaled 1.054.9 billion manats (16.3 percent), income tax - 306.4 million manats ( 4.7 percent), excise tax - 264.8 million (4.1 percent), property tax - 48 million manats (0.7 percent), land tax - 13.1 million manats (0.2 percent), tax on mineral resources - 45.8 million manats (0.7 percent), taxes on foreign economic activity - 216.4 million manats (3.4 percent).

Some 680.4 million manas (with a weight of 11.2 percent) from the budget were spent for social security and protection of the population in January-April, 386.6 million manats (6.4 percent) - for education, 157.6 million manats (2.6 percent) - health care, 292.9 million manats (4.8 percent) - maintenance of the prosecution, security, law enforcement, judicial bodies, 3.016.6 billion manats (49.7 percent) - investments in the economy.

Around 20.2 percent (1.227.3 billion manats) of public expenditure were spent on payment of salaries, pensions and benefits.

The state budget revenues for 2014 are envisaged to hit 18.384 billion manats, expenses - at the level of 20.063 billion manats.

The official exchange rate is 0.7843 AZN/USD on June 6.
