BP suspends work on oil platform in Azerbaijan due to technical security

BP, the operator of the Azeri-Chirag-Guneshli bloc of fields in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea has stopped producing light oil from the platform at the Chirag Field, BP Azerbaijan told Trend today. The work conducted on the platform was stopped on Saturday.

"During the routine testing of the fire protection system, it was necessary to conduct preventive repair work, which has been already launched. Of course, we have suspended production on the platform. The work, conducted on the platform, has been suspended from the standpoint of technical security only for repair," BP said.

According to the BP representative, suspending the work on the platform is necessary in accordance with safety regulations.

"The safety of the platform, and the people are a very important issue for us," a company representative said. The work on the platform will be restored as soon as the repairs are completed.

Other platforms, in particular in the field "Azeri" and the deep part of the field Guneshli, Sangachal oil terminal and other export facilities are working normally.

ACG participating interests are: BP (operator - 37.43 percent), Chevron (11.27 percent), SOCAR (10 percent), INPEX (10.96 percent), Statoil (8.56 percent), ExxonMobil (8 percent), TPAO (6.75 percent), ITOCHU (4.30 percent), Hess (2.72 percent).
