Azerbaijan's mobile operator Azercell Telecom Ltd plans to launch voice services over LTE (Long Term Evolution) network till late 2013, the company told Trend on Wednesday.
Azercell Telecom's plans also include the expansion of the LTE network across Baku and Absheron peninsula till late year. Now Azercell's LTE network coverage is limited to capital's territory, where 10 access points have been installed.
The company said that, the number of base stations operating over 4G networks will reach 250 by late 2013.
"Currently, some 4,044 base stations are functioning within the network of Azercell. Their number increased by 10 percent from early 2013," the company said.
The world's first call in the commercial LTE-Advanced 900/1800 MHz network has been made recently in the network of Australian operator Telstra.
The LTE technology has been chosen as the basic technology of the fourth generation (4G).
The 4G family includes the technologies that allow mobile subscribers to transmit data over cellular networks at speeds above 100 megabits/second and stationary subscribers - at speed of one gigabit/second, which is ten times more than in 3G networks.
