Azerbaijan, Baku /corr. Trend D.Khatinoglu / The statement of the Iranian President, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, that Iran is the most democratic country caused doubts of many Iranian law observers.
Such an opinion was also supported by the Iranian law observer, Chair of the Organization for Protection of Convicted People of South, Fahta Zameni, who functions in Canada.
During his visit to the USA on 21-25 September, the President of Iran stated that Iran is the most democratic and free country and the freedom of expression and press is observed in Iran. The President refuted information on punishment of homosexuals. There is not homosexuality in Iran, the President said.
Ahmadinejad openly told lies in New York, Zameni stated on 28 September by telephone from Canada. "The law observers worldwide have repeatedly appealed to the international organizations and were concerned of the violation of human rights in Iran. The false statement of the President once again testified that it is impossible to believe the words of the Iranian senior officials," the law observer said.
"Excessive pressure is put on the ethnic groups and non-Muslims in Iran. It is ridiculous to speak of the freedom of expression and human rights in Iran," Zameni said. The Iranian law observer Zehra Erfani, who functions in Switzerland, reported to Trend that thousands of politicians have been hung since the Iranian revolution in 1979. "Only in September 1988 30.000 people were executed in Iran and it continues. According to the official statistics, 453 people have been executed in Ahmadinejad's presidential term," she said. The law observers functioning in and out Iran consider groundless the statement of the Iranian President.
The fact of homosexuals' execution in Iran was also testified by the law observer, Chairman of Campaign against Executions in World, Mina Ahadi, who functions in Germany. According to her, a 16-year old boy was its victim on 22 September. Some 72 teenagers sentenced to death are kept in the Iranian prisons and it is contrary to the International Convention on Human Rights, Ahadi said.
The Organization of Reporters without Border made a written appeal to Ahmadinejad on 26 September. The statement says that in 2007 at least 73 journalists were arrested and 2 journalists were executed in Iran and the activity of hundreds of publications was ceased.
Iran takes the first place in the Near East for the arrest of the journalists. According to the laureate of Nobel Award, law observer Shirin Ebadi, those who protect the rights of women also incur repressions. The UN Commissioner on Human Rights, Luiz Arbora, stated that more than 50 woman law observers are under arrest.
Secretary of the Foundation of Iranian Journalists, Bedressadat Mofidi, said on 28 September in interview with Deutschewelle Agency that the dictatorship in Iran overstepped the borders. It is impossible to speak of the freedom of expression in Iran. Ahmadinejad made a false statement in New York, Mofidi said.
