Azerbaijani Musavat Party to Decide to Take Part in Presidential Elections

Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr. I. Alizadeh / The Azerbaijani Musavat opposition party will make its decision on 12 October concerning its participation in the upcoming 2008 presidential elections, Arif Hajili, the head of the Central Executive Administration, said on 11 October.

"The party is holding a meeting at its headquarters on 12 October at 12:00. The main issue included into the agenda is to define the party's position concerning the approaching presidential elections," Hajili said.

The party's leadership is planning to take part at the elections. It is planned that Isa Gambar will announce his candidature for the elections.

The presidential elections will be held in Azerbaijan on 15 October 2008.

Notably, the opposition Musavat party was founded in 1992. Isa Gambar, the present Chairman of the Party was the Ex-Speaker of the Azerbaijani Parliament (Milli Majlis) in 1992-1993 and the candidate nominated to the Presidential elections held in the country in 2003. Five MPs represent the Party in the nation's parliament.
