Family gladness is first among azeri people

Naturally at the end of the outgoing year, each people thinks of its results, determining what he/she achieved or what lost, as well as establishes plans for the coming year. It is possible to come to interesting results, surveying the opinions of people of the outgoing year and prospects of the coming year.

Sociological Service of Ray Organization held a nationwide survey of public opinion regarding the results of 2007 and prospects of 2008. Nearly 1200 local residents under 18 and older years of age have been surveyed in 42 settlements and villages in various regions of Azerbaijan. The survey was held through the method of interview 'face to face', with standard questionnaires. Its statistical fault is not more than 3%.

The statement by the Service says that the survey showed that the Country's population sees 2007 off with moderate optimism. Generally the Azerbaijanis assessed the outgoing year as successful for personally themselves and their families: 31% of them described 2007 as good or very good, 48% - medium and 21% - bad or very bad (the ratio of the positive and negative assessments is affirmative). Thus, 2007 appeared as good year for 43% of population, 41% - not bad, 16% - worse than 2006.

According to the respondents, there were many difficult and unpleasant moments, generally it passed 'with sign of plus' (the ratio of the positive and negative assessments is affirmative here as well). The share of those who could not reply is very high amongst those who remembered bad, but not good events (17% against 4%).

WHAT GOOD THINKS DID 2007 BRING TO YOU?

34% - family gladness (marriage, birth/marriage of .children, grandchildren)

13% - housing conditions improved

13% - life standards improved

12% - successes in study/work of family members

10% - successes at work (career rise, salary increase)

6% - had a good rest

5% - successes in study (entered university, finished magistracy, post-graduate course)

4% - large purchases, prizes

24% - nothing good

20% - it is nice that nothing bad took place

4% - difficult to answer

WHAT BAD THINKS DID 2007 BRING TO YOU?

27% - family unpleasantness (divorce, diseases or death of relatives, etc.)

10% - hard housing conditions

11% - life standards worsened

3% - problems in study /work of family members

3% - job loss, salary and occupation decrease

14% - did not have a good rest

1% - problems in study, could not enter desired university

2% - became victim of adventurers, was robbed

26% - it is bad that nothing good took place

17% - difficult to answer

Despite the price and inflation growth, the Azerbaijanis positively assess the situation and material opportunities of their families. Some 33% of the surveyed people consider that everything is not much bad, it is possible to live. Some 55% stated that it is difficult to live, but possible to tolerate. (However, there is other assessment: some 11% of the respondents stated that it is already impossible to tolerate our distress)

Generally the New Year mood of many Azerbaijanis is good. But it is not all. Answering the question regarding their lives, some 70% of the respondents replied that they are satisfied or rather satisfied with their lives. The survey showed that our citizens are concerned by the various problems linked with the difficulties of the life.

Let's pay attention to the issue that speaking of what the outgoing year brought to them, some 24% of the respondents replied: "there was nothing good". Other 20% stated: "it is good that there was nothing bad".

There was such an answer that "it is bad that there was not anything good" (26% of the respondent).

One of the questions in the survey was 'Several people say that human should firstly rely on himself and then on State. Do you agree with this opinion?'. Almost 68% of the residents consider that it needs to firstly rely on own force and then State. Some 32% of residents do not agree with them.

As regards to the question 'what will the year of Rat bring?', a majority of the Azerbaijanis hope that it will be successful. Half of the surveyed residents (52%) consider that the New year will be good for them, 20% not bad and 4% - worse than the current year.

Due to the expectations for Azerbaijan in the New Year, some 62% of the respondents consider that it will be good, 17% - not bad and 3% - worse than 2007 (other part of the survey participants could not reply).

Answering the question 'how are the works developing in the country, in a right or wrong direction?', some 37% of the residents consider that the Country goes in a right direction, 43% - partly right and partly wrong and 12% - wrong direction (8% could not reply).

Thus, the public opinion shows that the Year of Rat will be successful for personally them and generally for Azerbaijan.
