6% Rise in Solved Crimes in Azerbaijani Region

Azerbaijan, Ganja, 21 April / corr. Trend V. Mammadov/ There has been a rise by 6% in the number of solved crimes in Ganja city of Azerbaijan compared with 2007, Rasim Musayev, the Head of Ganja City Police Department said in the meeting on the results on the first quarter of 2008.

Some 190 crimes have been committed during the three months, 181 (95.3%) of which have been solved. Fifty of the crimes committed have not been determined, 3 are by foreign citizens, 17are committed by women, 14 by teenagers, 28 had been previously convicted and the remaining crimes were committed by drunken people.

The rise in the solved crimes totaled 89.5% in the same period of 2007.

According to Musayev, there were some 36 theft cases reported during the past three months all of which have been solved. During this period, police officers have found 6kg drugs which are double the figure of same period of 2007.

In 2008, some 1,830 people called the Ganja City Police Department in 2008.

Ganja is located 365km west of Baku.
