Iranian Citizen Detained in Baku for Drugs Distribution

Azerbaijan, Baku, 20 May / Trend corr K. Zarbaliyeva/ An Iranian citizen trying to sell a large amount of drugs was detained in Baku.

Azerbaijani Interior Ministry reported on 20 May that the Central Administration for Struggle against Organized Crime detained Iranian citizen Goli Golmohammad when he was trying to sell 10.5kg of opium for $36,000 which he had smuggled to Baku.

In the first quarter of 2008, interior bodies removed over 181kg of drugs (2.5times more than in the same period of 2007) from illegal turnover and prevented 41.5kg (2.7-fold rise) of drugs from smuggling to the country.

Out of 400 people who were made answerable due to drugs-related crimes, 367 (91.8%) were people capable of working but jobless and uneducated, 101 (25.3%) previously convicted, 7 (1.8%) women, 1 (0.3%) minor.
